Facebook Vs. Twitter

30 Nov

The New York Times had an excellent article written by Nick Bilton about Facebook Vs. Twitter. It referenced the old story about the tortoise and the hare. The article describes Facebook as the hare and how they exploded and gained endless amounts of data from its users. This article discusses how people became worried about their privacy on Facebook after knowing this information. I know personally, I became very wiry of my personal information and photos that were on my profile.

Twitter on the other hand is compared to the tortoise from the old story. Users trust Twitter more than Facebook because no user on Twitter has had their personal information leaked or exposed online when new features are released. Also, Twitter has not changed it’s privacy settings a million times like Facebook has.

This article states that users of social media sties will trust Twitter more than Facebook. (Honestly, I think I am starting to agree.)

What Users Should Focus On

30 Nov

Looking at social media from a business standpoint, Facebook is providing better results when it comes to customer interaction and engagement. SocialBakers, a social media analytics company, compared top brands’ Facebook and Twitter pages over a month’s time. “It concluded that brands such as Coca-cola, Starbucks, Playstation, and McDonalds were getting better results–sometimes dramatically better results– on Facebook” (Rubin). Only two out of the top ten brands, Oreo’s and Skittles, do it better on Twitter than on Facebook.

“Socialbakers suggests taking advantage of the site’s new “Facebook questions” feature, which can be used to ask questions of fans without forcing them to add any applications to answer them (a deterrent)” (Rubin).

Which One Will Die Out First?

According to this article by Aaron Lee, based upon a video Lee saw, there are two reasons why Facebook is seen to die out first, before Twitter. Facebook is more complex than Twitter and it has more rules to follow. However, the article further states why Facebook will still be around and used but might not be the powerhouse social media site. This is a very interesting article and is relatable for users of each site! Let me know what your thoughts are!

Which One?

Social media is quite addicting. There are so many websites that allow quick, easy, and fast ways to communicate with people and spread information like never before. The two main social media sites of this century are Facebook and Twitter.

Many people say that the sites have equal pros and cons. Facebook has seen to attract older adults because it is easier to manage and understand at first. Twitter on the other hand seems to attract the younger generation. It is seen to be quite intimidating to new users, however once exploring the website it is easy to see what the site is used for and its purpose.
